Cat 4 Safety Upgrade
Technologies: Siemens, Safety PLC, HMI, Industrial Wiring, Light Curtains
Integrelec won the contract to upgrade the entire safety system in the Bristile Trim Line Plant. The scope of works consisted of changing the existing safety system to a new Siemens safety PLC. Also included in the scope was replacing the current dated switchboard with a brand new switchboard that was designed and built in our own workshop.
Throughout the plant were several emergency stops, safety gates and fortress keys that all required rewiring. Also, light curtains were installed in a section of the plant where forklifts were in operation. A clever muting system was designed using underground inductive loops to detect an oncoming forklift. While the light curtains were muted a warning light was activated for the duration.
Again Integrelec was given a short deadline with only a week of production shutdown time allocated to complete all the onsite work. All programming was complete before the shutdown period; allowing for maximum time to commission and test the new system.-
Zone Tag Safety Isolation System
Technologies: Siemens, PILZ Safety PLC, Industrial Networking, HMI, Industrial Wiring
CSR approached Integrelec looking for a unique safety tag system to be developed. There was a requirement in the factory to use safety tags to isolate specific zones of the plant. Operators use these tags to isolate certain zones by moving the tag from its sensor putting it in their pocket to have on them at all times which they are working in danger zones. Several technologies were incorporated in this project as the safety system was operating using PILZ brand safety PLC and the standard PLC and HMI’s were all Siemens brand.
Our engineers designed a Cat 4 industrial safety system for CSR. A number of safety stations were designed and built in-house, these would be the base stations for the safety tags and local emergency stops. Our team of electricians worked mostly after hours to eliminate any loss of production time. With PLC and HMI preparation all complete offsite Integrelec completed the project in the scheduled one day of shutdown. -
