Downtime Monitoring System April 2013
Technologies: SQL Databases, PLC, SCADA, MS-Access, MS-Excel
For PGH Bricks, Oxley Brisbane. An existing system based on SQL Server and a customer PC application required upgrade to allow plant managers to adjust the list of reason codes from which the plant operators much choose when the plant stops for an unexpected reason. This allows them to analyze the cause of costly downtime and address the issues that are causing the greatest loss to production.
In order to maximize the existing investment of the customer we chose a hybrid solution, where we re-used the existing SQL database infrastructure. As the original source code was not available for the operator interface, we re-built this using the native iFix SCADA system already in extensive use at the plant, as well as the MS-Access manager interface. An existing elaborate reporting Excel spreadsheet was also modified to use the new system, thus saving the customer the cost of re-building this from scratch.

Plant Alarm Recording System. December 2012
Technologies: Databases, PLC, SCADA, MS-Access, WinCC Flex
A system was designed and implement to record and report the fault codes for a critical piece of machinery. This was to enable the management to analyze the cause of costly downtime and address the issues that are causing the greatest loss to production.
The plant had only a limited network infrastructure, so we extended the Profibus network from the plant floor, into the plant workshop, and connected this to a PC running Siemens WinCC flex. The alarm logging facilities available in WinCC were used to build a cost effective reporting tool.
